What is Wellness University?

Wellness University at PartnerMD is an online wellness platform designed to provide patients with comprehensive wellness education and resources. It empowers patients with the knowledge and tools they need to take control of their health and achieve their wellness goals.

Wellness University is made up of over 80 physician-approved courses focusing on four key areas of health that significantly impact your daily life. These areas include:

  • School of Adrenal Health: Helps patients manage stress and boost energy levels.
  • School of Cognitive Health: Focuses on improving memory and mental clarity.
  • School of Metabolic Health: Aims to improve metabolism, manage weight, and prevent diseases like diabetes.
  • School of Muscular Health: Concentrates on strengthening muscles and improving physical fitness.

What is the role of your physician at Wellness University?

Physicians at PartnerMD integrate Wellness University into their daily practice. They utilize the program's resources to enhance patient care and to provide comprehensive support for health and wellness.

A significant aspect of Wellness University is the collaboration between you, your physician, and your health coach. Your physician works closely with you and your health coach to create personalized wellness plans. This teamwork ensures that you receive comprehensive support and guidance.

"Many of my patients are benefiting from Wellness University," PartnerMD physician Dr. Allen Joslyn said. "I have a patient working with our health coaches now who has lost close to 30 pounds since I first met him in March. He will probably be able to avoid cholesterol lowering medication because of his collaboration with the health coach."

Doctors often recommend programs within Wellness University focused on specific health areas, such as:

  • Weight management: Programs designed to help patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

  • Chronic disease management: Courses focused on managing conditions like diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

  • Fitness: Programs and activities designed to improve physical strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health through exercises such as strength training and aerobics.

  • Stress: Techniques and courses aimed at managing and reducing stress through mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and lifestyle changes.

  • Sleep: Guidance and strategies to improve sleep quality and address sleep disorders though proper sleep hygiene, relaxation techniques, and sometimes medical interventions.

  • Cognitive health: Programs focus on maintaining and improving brain health through activities like cognitive exercises, memory training, mental health support, and nutrition advice.

How does your PartnerMD care team guide you through Wellness University?

You can get started with Wellness University yourself, but the journey often begins with your primary care doctor.

Your doctor will evaluate your health status, goals, and needs to determine the best wellness approach for you.

Based on this assessment, your doctor will recommend specific courses from Wellness University that align with your health goals. These recommendations might include programs on nutrition, exercise, stress management, and other wellness areas.

Once your doctor makes these recommendations, you'll contact our dedicated wellness team. This team will handle the enrollment process and ensure you get started with the right courses to meet your needs.

Your health coach will provide continuous support throughout your journey. They will track your progress, help you stay on course, and make necessary adjustments to your wellness plan to help you achieve your goals.

Health coaches are integral to your healthcare team. While your doctor focuses on the clinical aspects of your health, health coaches assist with the behavioral changes necessary for lasting wellness. They help you understand the 'how' and 'why' behind your actions, offering a comprehensive approach to improving your well-being.

Our aim is to make Wellness University a seamless and engaging part of your healthcare experience at PartnerMD. By integrating health coaching and personalized wellness plans, we ensure that you have the support and resources needed to succeed at every step of your wellness journey.
