Why am I health coach? My journey actually started as a young athlete. I was a competitive gymnast and by the age of 14, I had to see a sports medicine physician to work through injuries, because we know athletes encounter injuries.
It started to seep into my brain that this is something I could do with my life since it's something I was already passionate about. I love fitness. I love athleticism. Of course, that was going to change over the years, and my field has changed, and opportunities have only grown as well.
So as that went through, I did a little bit of PT and a little bit of commercial and corporate fitness along the way.
In 2012, I joined PartnerMD and that's really where I discovered more about this role. When I joined PartnerMD, I had to get much more aggressive in nutrition. I got really excited about this and learned so much more.
Then the opportunity came to be a certified health coach, which gave me more opportunity to learn cognitive behavioral therapy, which really got more into the psychological part, which I absolutely loved as well.
I started working more with patients and really sitting one on one with them — as each person comes in with a different medical background, different needs, different desires, so everyone's on a different path — and it's been fantastic and very rewarding to be that person for them, to educate them, to teach them more things, to hold their hand through this journey.
It's very rewarding. I absolutely love it. Whether they're killing it or whether they're struggling, either way, I get to be that support for that person to help them through to be stronger, more confident, and healthier.
