As a board-certified internist and concierge doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Gordon Pace is a dedicated partner in his patients’ health journeys. His goal is to help his patients thrive during every stage of life, working side-by-side with them to reach their health goals.
"Instead of just waiting for illnesses to develop and then reacting to them, I want to guide patients in making decisions now that will keep them healthy in the decades to come,” Dr. Pace says.
Dr. Pace values getting to the root of his patients' problems by understanding their motivations and identifying the factors that have influenced their health, whether positively or negatively.
"I want to be a supportive resource for my patients and help them to understand their health in-depth. To do this, I need to first build a trusting relationship with my patients, and this takes time," he says.
"Connection with my patients is essential to my practice, and I try to achieve it with warmth, honesty, and a touch of humor. I love to see a smile on my patients' faces when they leave the office after a visit.”
Dr. Pace credits his family's medical background and his volunteer work with influencing his path to becoming a physician.
With both parents and a grandfather as physicians, Dr. Pace always had becoming a doctor in the back of his mind. But before medical school, he volunteered for two years with unique communities in Northern Ireland and Arizona.
"These life experiences gave me a better appreciation of our global population and the diversity of experiences that influence health," he says. "These years gave me the drive to help people on a personal level."
Dr. Pace then earned his medical degree from VCU and completed his internal medicine residency at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Before joining PartnerMD, Dr. Pace practiced as a hospitalist at VCU Health, where he helped patients navigate complex, chronic, and often severe medical conditions.
With his commitment to building long-term relationships and getting ahead of potential problems, Dr. Pace felt drawn back into primary care to focus on preventing health problems and helping his patients live more fulfilling lives.

"I want to understand the root causes of my patients' concerns with kindness and empathy. Building a trusting relationship is crucial for effective healthcare. I take the time necessary to develop that trust."
Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
"The relationships I have with my patients are what I enjoy most. I love getting to know people on an emotional and fundamental level. I want to help my patients be healthy enough to do what they want to do and find contentment in their lives."
When not working, Dr. Pace enjoys traveling, particularly internationally. His favorite adventure was a 192-mile hike across England on the Coast-to-Coast path with his wife.
He stays busy at home with yard work, house projects, and toting his 3 children to their endless activities (soccer, swimming, gymnastics, etc).
Downtime is spent planning the next big family adventure, meandering through used book and CD stores, and watching movies (sci-fi and fantasy preferred!).
He is always looking forward to his favorite activity: playing indoor soccer with his wife, which is why you may see him with an occasional limp.
