"The secret to a healthy life isn’t rocket science," Dr. Anthony Fierro says. "Keep your weight down. Use your muscles. Get your heart rate up. Eat right. Rest. Think good thoughts."
As a board-certified family physician and concierge doctor in Richmond, VA, Dr. Fierro knows his job is to help people develop, implement, and maintain these healthy habits.
"But everyone still gets sick at some point," he says. "And that’s when empathy and knowledge kick in to help them get better. You have to pay attention. You have to have your heart in it as a doctor."
Dr. Fierro particularly enjoys the responsibility of being his patients’ confidant for all their healthcare concerns.
"I like the process of getting to know my patients and getting to the core issue," he says. "To figure out what’s wrong and the best solution, you have to be willing to listen and pay attention. That trumps all the medication I could prescribe."
Dr. Fierro believes in practicing what he preaches and maintains an active daily lifestyle. He is an avid runner and is eager to help patients pursue their healthy lifestyles as well.
"One thing I learned during COVID-19 is that people don’t just deserve a better relationship with their doctor, they need it." Dr. Fierro says.
"Having a deeper relationship with a doctor who has the time to talk about your life and your goals is so important to one’s health."
Dr. Fierro’s parents immigrated to the United States from Italy. He grew up in Richmond and returned to the river city after residency.
"Coming from an Italian family, the first son always comes home to be close to his parents," he says.
A devoted family man, he loves spending time with his family, especially at any UVA sporting event, and he loves to read.
