**Dr. Bampton is not accepting new patients.
For Dr. James Bampton, helping patients with the array of health issues they face throughout life has always been his goal. His drive to become a doctor started early in life.
"Probably when I was around 12," he says. "I always wanted to be that person taking care of families. I’ve just always wanted to go somewhere and do some good."
Before he transitioned to family medicine in Midlothian, VA, Dr. Bampton spent seven years as a physician with the Indian Health Service in northwest New Mexico.
"Being out in the middle of nowhere, I had to treat just about everything," he says. "That’s what I love about family medicine. I love being able to guide people through all stages of life and through whatever life throws at them."
Now, 15+ years after moving from New Mexico to be closer to family and continue his career as a primary care doctor, Dr. Bampton still focuses on providing personalized, preventive care in a kind, reassuring manner.
"I want to know where you are health-wise. Have you had a lot of health problems? Do you need help figuring out a complicated puzzle, or are you simply set on marching toward a goal?"
"I learned through my own life the value in delivering care the right way," he says. "That’s why I love concierge medicine. I get the chance to actually talk at length with my patients and fully dive into their situations, without feeling rushed."

Philosophy of Care
"The patient-doctor relationship is a partnership. I often use the phrase – I only load the truck. I don’t drive it. When it leaves here, I have no control over where it goes. But my job is to give you all the information you need to follow the right path."
Favorite Part About Being a Doctor
"Helping people. It’s always been about that for me. Helping people figure out how to be their best selves."
Dr. Bampton was born in Midlothian and returned from working in New Mexico to the same neighborhood where he grew up, where he now resides with his wife and two big dogs. He has three now-adult children.
As a Duke graduate, he loves watching college basketball and being outdoors, including camping, skiing, and target shooting.
"I’m also a big movie guy," he says. "I love to talk cinema with my sons."
A self-described huge Star Wars fan, he wouldn’t commit to enjoying the most recent movies in the franchise. He also loves eating out and trying new restaurants, so if you have any recommendations, feel free to let him know.
