As a board-certified internist and concierge doctor in Sandy Springs, GA, Dr. Rakesh Sarma integrates traditional medicine, functional medicine, and holistic medicine to deliver customized care for every patient.
"To me, a person’s health cannot be boiled down to a pharmaceutical solution or a supplement solution alone," Dr. Sarma says. "People aren’t just biochemical processes waiting to be adjusted. My goal is to help patients understand their health and help them find the right strategy to achieve their goals."
He has nearly 20 years of experience helping adults manage diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, inflammatory conditions, thyroid issues, osteoporosis, arthritis, depression, anxiety, asthma, and allergies, among other common health problems.
Dr. Sarma combines clinical and holistic care with a focus on coaching and education to help patients improve their health and live their best lives.
When a conventional approach may not completely address a patient's concern, Dr. Sarma introduces a functional medicine approach to help find the root causes of your physical imbalances together with comprehensive intake assessments and laboratory analysis.
Dr. Sarma has completed an integrative medicine fellowship from the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine at the University of Arizona, been certified by the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine, and completed educational training from the Institute of Functional Medicine.
Dr. Sarma has found that many approaches can help patients understand their health.
"I know that what health means to me does not necessarily mean it means the same to anyone else. So as a physician, I’m passionate about helping others understand what health means to them."
He previously operated his own practice – Sarma Integrative Medicine – in Sandy Springs.

Philosophy of Care
"I help my patients examine their personal choices and find their own authenticity and resilience. I want them to truly understand what they value and how it may actually be informing the choices that lead away from good health."
Favorite Part About Being a Doctor?
"The educational aspect. I enjoy connecting with people about their health, bringing out a whiteboard, and drawing and explaining different aspects of their condition from different perspectives – dietary, emotional, medicinal, and whatever else is needed so that they have a deeper understand of their condition and their orientation towards improving it."
Dr. Rakesh Sarma lives in Atlanta, GA, with his beautiful wife, Priya, and daughters, Rani and Shivani. They are huge foodies and love experimenting in the kitchen.
Dr. Sarma loves creating salads and trying new spices and herbs to achieve different tastes. That said, he’ll admit it’s also difficult to pass up a nice plate of nachos.
Dr. Sarma and his wife also love hiking and traveling. Niagara Falls is one of Dr. Sarma’s favorite places he’s been, but he enjoys visiting any body of water, particularly rivers.
He also has an affinity for places in India, including Thiruvannamalai and Kashi. On his bucket list for travel are the Alhambra in Spain and Mount Kailash in northern India.
Finally, Dr. Sarma practices yoga and meditation daily. "It helps keep me centered, even as life throws its petals or curveballs my way," he says.
